eBay Canada Enhances Support for Charity Listings - October 20, 2005
New Program Credits Selling Fees back to registered Canadian charities who raise funds via eBay Canada

Toronto, ON - eBay Canada (www.ebay.ca) today announces that it will be enhancing its charity platform to further support the generosity of the eBay community. Over the past ten years, more than $59 million USD has been raised for charities through listings on the eBay Marketplace. Now, eBay Canada will credit selling fees (Listing, Gallery and Final value fees only) back to registered Canadian charities¹ who list items on eBay Canada (www.ebay.ca) for the purpose of fundraising². The registered Canadian charities must also meet the eligibility criteria for eBay Canada's Charity Fee Credit policy.

"We're thrilled to be able to offer additional support to charitable fundraising in Canada and know that Canadian charities will benefit tremendously from the generosity of the eBay community," said Jordan Banks, managing director, eBay Canada. "eBay was founded on the principle that people are basically good. This is proven everyday by the eBay community's support of an incredible range of worthy causes."

Over the past five years, numerous charities and organizations have used eBay to raise funds for their cause, including SickKids Foundation, Kids Help Phone, Children's Wish Foundation, AIDS Committee of Toronto, World Wildlife Fund Canada, Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation, Wayne Gretzky on behalf of the Ronald McDonald House Canada, Easter Seals and the Canadian Cancer Society. Most recently, eBay?s international community raised millions of dollars for Tsunami and Hurricane Katrina relief organizations.

"eBay has leveled the playing field among entrepreneurs, small businesses and multi-national companies," says Jordan Banks, managing director, eBay Canada. "eBay provides business owners with an online 'storefront' as well as access to a global marketplace. It also offers a new global frontier, opening up borders traditionally closed off by geography and distance, giving the entrepreneur in downtown Vancouver and business owner in rural Saskatchewan, the same access to the same buying community in the same real-time."

¹Registered charities refer to organizations who have successfully registered for charitable status with Canada Revenue Agency and are able to issue official tax receipts to donors.
²A registered Canadian Charity (RCC) may appoint an Auction Management Agent (AMA) to list on their behalf as long as a RCC has only one AMA selling on their behalf at any one time.
