Trends come and go, but quality jewellery withstands the test of time. Even if a popular jewellery fashion retires for a season, it never fails to come back, and when it does, you'll have a piece of jewellery that fits. Some of the latest trends in jewellery include:

  • Rose gold jewellery: If you're lucky enough to have the rose gold watch your great-grandmother passed down, start wearing it immediately. If not, invest in rose gold earrings, rose gold rings, or a rose gold watch like the one adorning Sheryl Crow's wrist.

  • Jewellery inspired by nature: As Bohemian and folkloric trends begin to fall by the wayside, refined jewellery with nature-inspired themes take center stage. Look for leaf jewellery, including silver leaf earrings, jeweled leaf brooches, and gold leaf necklaces, as well as acorns carved out of agate or amber. Butterfly jewellery, especially butterfly brooches, continues to soar to the top of everyone's must-have jewellery list. Mariah Carey, known for her love of butterfly jewellery, is certainly doing her part to keep the butterfly popularity going. She was recently spotted wearing a multicolour butterfly brooch rumoured to be worth millions.

  • Dark, moody stones: Dark jewellery is smokin' hot. Look at stones that have an earthy, exotic look such as black onyx, black jade, Australian black opals, black pearls, and black diamonds.

  • Dangle earrings: Dangle earrings are the new it earrings. Long diamond dangle earrings can be dramatic for night while demure gold dangle earrings can work nicely for day. Pearl dangle earrings give you all-day classic glamour, but save those extra-long shoulder sweepers for evening. For maximum wow factor, try hair in an up-do or back in a ponytail with your dangle earrings.

  • Piles of pearls: Pearls can make you look classy or trendy. For a classic Grace Kelly look, wear a single short strand of pearls. To get the hottest look, wear various types of pearls in different lengths. Mix strands of pink pearls, black pearls, and freshwater pearls. Sharon Stone recently purchased beautiful black pearls in Tahiti. She also wears her freshwater pearls mixed with a strand of puka shells along with a white tank top and jeans.

Follow Celebrity Jewellery Trends

Follow Celebrity Jewellery Trends

Many jewellery trends start on the red carpet. Paying attention to the jewellery celebrities wear keeps you in touch with the latest fashions.

Dress up with diamonds

Marilyn Monroe once sang, “Diamonds Are a Girl’s Best Friend," and today’s red carpet regulars couldn’t agree more. Diamonds of every kind—from modern diamonds to vintage diamonds to white diamonds, yellow diamonds, pink diamonds, and blue diamonds—continue to dominate at the Hollywood award shows with everyone from Angelina Jolie to Oprah wearing them.

Tom Cruise recently surprised Katie Holmes with a single-strand diamond choker. Not long after that, she started wearing a five-carat Edwardian-style diamond engagement ring. Experts say that Edwardian diamond engagement rings will be one of this year’s favourite engagement ring styles. Heidi Klum is wearing a huge canary yellow diamond heart, a birthday gift from husband Seal. He bought it to match the canary engagement ring he gave her shortly before they married. Also expect a return in popularity of diamond initials, stemming from Madonna wearing her diamond “M” at the Live 8 concert.

Draw attention to your face

Celebrities often wear earrings, necklaces, and hair ornaments to events, knowing photographers often take pictures of them from the neck up. Celebrities want to put the bling where it shows and draw attention to their faces. When Scarlett Johansson’s picture appeared as she was receiving the New Power award, she was right on trend with a pair of long dangle earrings with pearls on the end.

Embrace bangle bracelets

Stars continue to wear bangle bracelets when they’re out and about. Kyra Sedgwick was recently seen with her right arm full of skinny gold bangle bracelets and her left with a single wide jade bangle bracelet. Halle Berry also wears an armful of skinny gold bangle bracelets, some of them studded with diamonds. The girls of Malibu and Santa Monica, Kate Hudson, Courtney Cox, and Jennifer Aniston, all wear wooden beads and bangles as part of the laid-back Bohemian style.

Give your jewellery a dual personality

The public eye frequently focuses on celebrities, so some of them don’t like to be seen in the same jewellery too often. These celebrities think of ways to mix their jewellery up and make it look different. For example, at last year’s Oscars, Scarlett Johansson put vintage brooches on a ribbon, which she then used as a headband. Another celebrity had her hairdresser put a strand of pearls in her up-do. Cate Blanchett wore pink, yellow, lavender, and green sapphire daisy brooches in her hair. Daytime Emmy winner Eden Riegel of "All My Children" put a brooch on a chain and turned it into a diamond necklace. The popular pearl belt is often just a long strand of pearls. Other celebrities put crystal brooches or vintage rhinestone brooches on daytime bags to turn them into evening bags.

Like the celebrities, have fun with your jewellery, and mix it up. One piece of jewellery and a good idea can create a whole new look.
