1. Why do I have to wait to
receive a credit instead of seeing the discount price
immediately on the site?
The reason many of our promotions issue credits
as opposed to changing the prices temporarily across the entire
site has to do with the eligibility requirements of the
promotion. If we change the prices directly on the site, any
seller from around the world would be able to come to eBay.ca
and get the discount, no matter what site they normally use.
This ends up hurting the balance of supply and demand on other
international sites, where the sellers would temporarily be
migrating from, as well as creating a lot of sudden competition
for our Canadian sellers.
Instead, what we like to do is have the promotion open only to
Canadians and let them list on whatever site they wish. We know
that this type of eligibility allows Canadian sellers to be more
successful at selling their items. Currently, we don't have the
ability to verify a user's residence in real time with their
listing, so we pull a list of the qualified users after the
fact, verify it personally and then issue credits. Please note
that if you are invoiced before this credit is applied, you are
responsible for paying the full invoiced amount. Any credit will
then be applied to your seller's account and can be used towards
future selling fees.
2. Why do I need a credit
card to sell on eBay?
As an eBay seller, you'll
be accepting payments from people around the world for the items
you sell. In order to make eBay a safe, secure place to trade
online, we ask for a credit card to be put on file. Your credit
card will not be charged during the registration process. This
helps prevent fraud and encourages more buyers to bid on your
listings as a result of eBay's excellent reputation and record
as a safe place to trade.
3. If I list in two or more categories, will all insertion fees
be eligible for the promotional fee?
Yes. As long as all
categories are eligible for the promotion then the insertion fee
you pay for each category will be reduced to the promotional
fee. If only one of the multiple categories you're listing in is
eligible (for instance, you've listed your item in Motors >
Vehicles and Collectables > Transportation) then you will only
receive the promotional fee for the category that is eligible,
which in this case would be Collectables > Transportation.
4. If I revise my qualifying listing after the promotion starts,
will my listing be eligible?
Revising your eligible
listing after the promotion starts will not prevent your item
from being eligible for the promotional fee, as long as you have
not changed the specifics of your listing to render it
ineligible. For instance, if you list an item during a
promotion, then revise your description the day after the
promotion ends, your listing will still be eligible. However, if
you revise that item the day after the promotion ends and change
the category to Business and Industrial > Construction, which is
an excluded category, then the item will no longer qualify.
5. If I listed my item before the promotion, but revise it on
the promotional date, will my listing be eligible?
No. Items that are listed
before the promotional date and then revised during the
promotion are not eligible. For instance, let's say you list an
item on Monday and later learn that eBay is having a promotion
for items starting under $1.00 the following Tuesday. If you
were to revise your starting price on Tuesday, your listing
would not qualify for the promotional fee.
6. If I re-list my item during the promotion, will the item be
eligible?
Yes. An item re-listed on
a promotional day will qualify for the promotional fee, as long
as all the details of the listing qualify. For example, let's
say you list your item on the 1st and the item doesn't sell but
you re-list the item on the 8th, which happens to be the day of
a promotion. Your insertion fees will qualify for the promotion.
Also, if it is your first re-listing of the item and it goes on
to sell, 100% of your insertion fees will be credited back to
you.
7. Why are Motors Vehicles and Business and Industrial Capital
Equipment rarely included in promotions?
Motors vehicles and
Business and Industrial Capital Equipment are rarely included in
promotions, since their fee structures are different then other
eBay categories. For instance, it costs US$40.00 to list a
passenger vehicle as opposed to US$0.25 to list a DVD starting
under $1.00. Because of this, we typically exclude these
categories from standard promotions.
8. I'm a Canadian resident, but I registered on eBay.com...am I
eligible?
Yes. Canadian residents
will always be eligible for promotions announced by eBay.ca.
Some of these promotions will be open to Canadian residents
specifically. Other promotions may be open to anyone who uses
eBay.ca. Regardless, a Canadian resident who registered on
eBay.com before the launch of eBay.ca will always be eligible
for Canadian promotions.
9. If I list an item before the promotional date but schedule it
to start during the promotion, will it be eligible?
Yes. Items listed before the promotional date that are scheduled
to start during the promotion will be eligible for the
promotional fee.
