General

  • Why are you making this change?

Moving to a single listing currency will:

    • Simplify the eBay.ca selling platform and selling experience
    • Make it easier to bring new selling features to eBay.ca
    • Help Canadian sellers to be more successful
  • Are you making this change because of the current Canadian-to-US dollar exchange rate?

No. We’re making this change for the long term. Removing US dollar (USD) listings is a response to the changing ecommerce landscape in Canada and the US: ecommerce is now a significant part of Canadian retail, while US buyers are now used to seeing and buying foreign inventory online. This change allows us to simplify our selling platform and will ensure that we're better able to launch new or improved selling features on eBay.ca. While the current, weaker Canadian dollar (CAD) creates an advantage for Canadian sellers, we're making this change to ensure that Canadian sellers can be more successful—both now and in the long term.

  • Is this change mandatory?

Yes. Beginning in June, sellers will need to list in Canadian dollars when they list on eBay.ca.

  • When will the changes take effect?

Starting June 1st 2016, you will need to list in Canadian dollars when you list or relist on eBay.ca. Then, beginning on January 16th, 2017, we will end all remaining Good 'Til Cancelled listings created in US Dollars on eBay.ca.

  • Will the eBay.ca marketplace be restricted to Canadian dollar listings only?

No. We will continue to show US dollar (USD) listings in search results on eBay.ca, including both USD listings created on eBay.com and—while they remain—USD listings created on eBay.ca.

  • Will this change impact buyers?

No. There are no changes being made to the eBay.ca buyer experience. Search results on eBay.ca will continue to show items listed in CAD as well as USD and other international currencies.

  • What about US buyers who don’t want to pay in Canadian dollars?

Modern electronic payment systems make it just as easy to buy something listed in a foreign currency as it is to buy something in your own currency. While there may still be some buyers who avoid foreign currencies on eBay, our data shows that overall, Canadians who list in Canadian dollars have been more successful than Canadians who list in US dollars, even including their sales to US buyers.

  • I need to collect Canadian sales tax on my eBay sales. Do I have to list on eBay.ca?

As long as you set up tax rules using the Sales Tax table on eBay.ca, you can list on either eBay.ca or eBay.com and taxes will be applied correctly. Learn more about setting up a tax table.

Listing currency and search results

  • If I list in Canadian dollars, will my items appear in US dollars on eBay.com?

Yes. On eBay.com, all items show a price converted to US dollars (USD) in search results. For these items, the view item page shows the listing price in Canadian dollars, along with the converted price in USD.

  • If I list on eBay.ca will my items still be available to US buyers?

Yes. Your listing site (eBay.ca or eBay.com) or listing currency does not determine which buyers will see your listings. As long as you offer shipping to the US, US buyers will be able to discover and buy your items.

Learn more about specifying your shipping locations.

  • How are Canadian dollar listings handled in Best Match on eBay.com?

Best Match does not use listing currency as a factor for how an item is ranked, so Canadian and US dollar listings are treated equally by search. Best Match converts all prices to US dollars at the current exchange rate before determining the ranking of the listings returned by the search query.

  • How are Canadian dollar listings handled when search results are sorted by price on eBay.com?

Canadian dollar listings are ranked according to their value in US dollars at the current exchange rate.

  • Will eBay's Best Match search ranking lose the recent sales performance history on my US dollar listings when I have to create new listings?

Recent sales performance is only one factor of many that are used today to determine search ranking on both eBay.ca and eBay.com. Best Match only uses sales performance factors from multi-quantity fixed price listings, so there is no impact to auction listings or single-quantity fixed price listings.

Multi-quantity fixed price listings that are converted to CAD or moved to eBay.com will need to generate new sales in order to rebuild sales performance data for Best Match search ranking.

Taking action

  • When is the best time to migrate my listings?

    If you have 3, 5, 7, 10 or 30-day duration listings

    • Include the conversion to CAD to move to eBay.com as part of your regular relisting practices (e.g. as the listings end).
    • If you would like to convert or move your listings in bulk, then we recommend you use the eBay Listing Migration Tool, which will be available in early May.

If you have Good ‘Til Cancelled listings

    • Convert your Good 'Til Cancelled listings to Canadian dollars or move them to eBay.com between now and January 16th, 2017.
    • If you would like to convert or move your listings in bulk, then we recommend you use the eBay Listing Migration Tool.

Learn more about the eBay Listing Migration Tool.

  • I have US dollar (USD) listings that I created on eBay.com and USD listings that I created on eBay.ca. How can I tell them apart?

We’ve created an eBay Listing Look-up Tool that can be used to identify your affected listings. Learn more.

  • My eBay Stores subscription is on eBay.ca. Do I need to subscribe on eBay.com in order to list on eBay.com?

No. If you have an eBay store subscription, it doesn’t matter on which site you subscribed or created your eBay Store. Your Store appears on both eBay.com and eBay.ca, and your reduced fees apply to listings on both sites.

  • Can I make revisions to my live US dollar listings after June 1st?

Yes. These changes don’t impact the Revise flows in any way. As long as your listing is live, you can make revisions on it as you would normally—even after we stop allowing new and relisted items to be listed in US dollars on eBay.ca.

  • Can I use relist or sell similar to create a Canadian dollar listing from a US dollar listing?

Yes. You can use Relist or Sell Similar to create a Canadian dollar (CAD) listing from a US dollar (USD) listing. Please note: you’ll have to update your item and shipping prices to adjust for the new currency. Only the eBay Listing Migration Tool supports automatic currency conversion for CAD listings created from USD listings.

  • How will the migration process affect my free listing count?

eBay Canada will offer a variety of targeted listing promotions to offset affected sellers’ listing fees as they create new listings on either eBay.ca or eBay.com.

  • I’m interested in moving my listings to eBay.com. Will I need to create a new user account on eBay.com?

No. You can use the same sign-in credentials you use to list on eBay.ca to list on eBay.com, or on any other international eBay site.

  • If eBay ends my US dollar listing, will it be erased? Or will I still be able to see it in My eBay?

Listings ended by eBay will still appear in My eBay for up to 60 days, and in Selling Manager for up to 90 days. They'll also appear in the Ended Listings view of the eBay Listing Migration Tool. You'll be able to use the Tool to convert ended USD listings into Canadian dollar draft listings on eBay.ca, or US dollar draft listings on eBay.com.

  • Why do you recommend US dollars for Automotive Parts & Accessories sellers?

According to our research, Parts & Accessories sellers have experienced better sell-through rates when they list their items in US dollars. We also recommend that Parts & Accessories sellers list on eBay.com to take advantage of the Parts Compatibility feature. They’ll get access to the fitment catalogue, which is not yet available on eBay.ca.

Learn more about the Parts Compatibility feature.

  • Why does eBay recommend that Canadian sellers offering combined shipping discounts list on eBay.com?

When you offer combined shipping discounts across multiple listings, the discount is applied in the eBay shopping cart after buyers add two or more of your listings to their carts. While the shopping cart on eBay.ca supports listings in any currency, from any eBay site, the shopping cart on eBay.com only supports listings created on eBay.com.

When you list on eBay.ca, buyers on eBay.com can purchase your listings individually using Buy It Now, but they can’t add them to their eBay.com shopping cart. As a result, the shipping discount for purchasing multiple items is not applied.

When you list on eBay.com, buyers can add your listings to their shopping carts on either eBay.com or eBay.ca, and shipping discounts are applied correctly.

Once the shopping cart on eBay.com has been upgraded to the more advanced version in use on eBay.ca, combined shipping discounts will no longer need to be a factor in selection of your listing site.

Using the eBay Listing Migration Tool

  • How do I sort through my listings in the Migration Tool?

There are two ways to sort through your listings. You'll find a Display menu at the top of the page, with 5 views:

    • Display all shows you all the listings imported into the tool
    • Unprocessed shows you any listings that haven't been migrated via the tool yet
    • Converted listings (CAD) shows you all the listings that were converted to CAD via the tool
    • Moved listings (eBay.com) shows you all the listings that were moved to eBay.com via the tool
    • Imported listings is only available when you manually import listings using their item numbers

    Sort your listings alphabetically

Additionally, you can sort your listings alphabetically by clicking Status, Draft Created, Item Number, Format, or Price in the column headers.

  • How do I select all my listings at the same time?

There are a few different selection options available in the tool:

    • The unmarked selection checkbox located in the top left corner of the list of listings will select all the listings that are shown on the page you are currently viewing.
    • Unmarked selection checkbox
    • The Select all listings checkbox located above the list of your listings will select all of the listings that were imported into the tool, even those on pages other than the one currently viewed.

    Select all listings checkbox

Note: The tool can only process up to 5,000 listings at a time. If you attempt to select more than 5,000 listings, the tool will only select the first 5,000. You'll have to process these first 5,000 and repeat the migration process for your remaining listings afterward.

  • Does my Selling Manager subscription work on all eBay sites?

No. Selling Manager and Selling Manager Pro are site-specific, meaning that if you have Selling Manager on eBay.ca, it won't be available to you on eBay.com unless you subscribe to it there as well.

  • Do my eBay.ca business policies work on eBay.com?

No. Business policies are site-specific, so the policies you have created on eBay.ca will only be available on eBay.ca. You will need to create new business policies on eBay.com to use them for items listed on that site.

  • Does the eBay Listing Migration Tool show my live listings, or only my ended listings?

The eBay Listing Migration Tool can be used to view either live listings or ended listings.

  • How does the eBay Listing Migration Tool work?

When you sign in to the eBay Listing Migration Tool, you can view and download a list of all your live or ended listings that were created in US dollars (USD) on eBay.ca.

You can use the Tool to create new draft listings based on these non-compliant listings. We also put together a decision tool to help you determine, based on your listing practices, whether you should convert your USD listings to Canadian dollars and continue to list on eBay.ca, or to move your USD listings to eBay.com.

  • Can I list my new listings directly from the eBay Listing Migration Tool?

No. Beginning in May, you’ll be able to use the tool to create draft listings that will appear in Selling Manager on eBay.ca (if you convert to CAD) or eBay.com (if you move to eBay.com). You must then log into the appropriate eBay site and use Selling Manager to make any final changes to your drafts before scheduling or listing them.

  • Will the eBay Listing Migration Tool end my Good ‘Til Cancelled listings?

The eBay Listing Migration Tool will only create draft listings. It will not end your non-compliant listings for you. We recommend that you end your non-compliant Good ‘Til Cancelled listings once your replacement listings are live. In January 2017, eBay will end any remaining Good ‘Til Cancelled listings created on eBay.ca in US dollars.

  • If I convert a listing to Canadian dollars using the eBay Listing Migration Tool, what will the tool do?

The tool will create a new draft listing in Selling Manager on eBay.ca. Title, description, pictures, item specifics, and all other listing information will be carried over from the original listing. All values entered in US dollars on the original listing will be converted to Canadian dollars on the new draft listing, using the exchange rate you provide or the default rate.

If you wish, the tool can also round up your auction Starting Price or Buy It Now price to the nearest dollar—or to a value in cents you prefer, such as the nearest 99 cents or the nearest 95 cents.

  • Which price fields are modified when I convert a listing to Canadian dollars using the eBay Listing Migration Tool?

The eBay Listing Migration Tool will convert all fields to Canadian dollars that were entered in US dollars in the original listing:

    For Auction-style listings:

    • Starting price
    • Buy It Now price
    • Reserve price (if any)
    • All flat-rate shipping services from the original listing, including any associated handling charges
    • Handling charges associated with any calculated rate shipping services

    For Fixed Price listings:

    • Buy It Now price
    • Additional items price (for multi-quantity)
    • Best Offer automatically accepted price
    • Best Offer automatically declined price
    • All flat rate shipping services from the original listing, including any associated handling charges
    • Handling charges associated with any calculated rate shipping services
  • My return policy includes restocking fees. Will these also be converted?

Restocking fees are expressed as a percentage of the item price, so they don’t need to be converted.

  • If I move a listing to eBay.com using the eBay Listing Migration Tool, what will the tool do?

When you opt to move a listing to eBay.com, the eBay Listing Migration Tool will create a new draft listing in Selling Manager on eBay.com. Title, description, pictures, prices, category selection, item specifics and all other listing information will be carried over from the original listing.

Because shipping options are different on eBay.com than eBay.ca, the Tool will map the shipping services selected on your eBay.ca listing to the closest matching eBay.com shipping services.

  • How exactly are shipping services mapped from eBay.ca to eBay.com?

Additional shipping information may be required in certain cases where your eBay.ca shipping details can’t be mapped to eBay.com—for example, when the original listing used Canada Post calculated rate shipping which is not supported on eBay.com, or if the original listing did not include a valid US shipping service.

  • How can I tell which listings have already been migrated into drafts?

The eBay Listing Migration Tool includes an indicator that appears next to any listing from which the Tool has already generated a draft.

  • How many listings can I migrate at once?

The eBay Listing Migration Tool creates draft listings in Selling Manager, which can accommodate a maximum of 5,000 drafts at a time.

If you have no drafts in your Selling Manager drafts container on eBay.ca, you can convert up to 5,000 listings into Canadian currency drafts.

If you have no drafts in your Selling Manager drafts container on eBay.com, you can move up to 5,000 listings to US currency drafts on eBay.com.

  • Why does the eBay Listing Migration Tool create drafts in Selling Manager?

The eBay Listing Migration Tool was created specifically to move listings from one site to another, or convert all US dollar values to Canadian dollar values across many listings at once. From there, sellers can use Selling Manager to update their drafts in any way they desire, individually or in bulk.

Selling Manager supports up to 5,000 drafts at a time—and it’s completely free for sellers.

  • When I create drafts with the eBay Listing Migration Tool, why can’t I see them in my third-party listing software?

The eBay Listing Migration Tool can’t create drafts in third-party listing applications. Drafts created with the Tool can only be accessed within Selling Manager on eBay.ca or eBay.com.

  • What if I don’t subscribe to eBay Selling Manager?

All sellers with live non-compliant listings will automatically be subscribed to Selling Manager. There is no subscription fee to use it. Learn more about the features of Selling Manager.

  • What if I don’t want to subscribe to Selling Manager?

You’ll need to be subscribed to Selling Manager to use the eBay Listing Migration Tool. There is no subscription fee for Selling Manager, and you can still access My eBay and see your sold and live listings in the familiar way. If you prefer to unsubscribe from Selling Manager, you can do so once you’ve finished migrating your listings.

Good 'Til Cancelled removal

  • When will my Good 'Til Cancelled listings be removed?

We'll start removing Good 'Till Cancelled listings created in USD on January 16th, 2017. We estimate the process will take approximately 4 days to complete. Once your listings are removed, you'll receive an email with the full list of ended item numbers.

  • Where will my removed items end up?

All of the Good 'Til Cancelled listings ended by this process will be moved to the Unsold Items container in My eBay. From there, you can relist them in CAD. You can also list them again on eBay.com, if you prefer to keep them in USD.

  • I paid insertion fees for these listings. Will they be credited?

Yes. If you were charged insertion fees for the listings we end as part of this initiative, they will be credited on your next invoice.
