Shipping internationally

How international shipping costs are calculated

You can use the Shipping Calculator to calculate shipping costs to any country. International shipping costs are based on a combination of the following:

  • Weight and dimensions of package.

  • Method of shipment such as Ground or Next Day Air.

  • The location you are shipping from (city, province, country).

  • The location you are shipping to (also called the destination country).

Costs can be considerably higher for international destinations.

Generally, buyers pay additional costs such as duties, taxes, and customs clearance fees. For example, international rates may or may not include pickup and door-to-door delivery with customs clearance.

Make sure that your listing clearly specifies who is responsible for paying these additional fees. You can cut and paste this directly into your listing:

International Buyers - Please Note:

Import duties, taxes, and charges are not included in the item price or shipping cost. These charges are the buyer's responsibility.

Please check with your country's customs office to determine what these additional costs will be prior to bidding or buying.

Some carriers will offer customs and brokerage services to assist you with what you should tell your buyers about additional charges, duties, and taxes. An "extended area surcharge" may apply to your buyers depending on their international locations.

Shipping to the United States

In the United States, buyers are responsible for paying duties, taxes, and applicable customs brokerage fees separate from the merchandise cost. Buyers will generally pay these fees upon receipt of your shipment. Tell your American buyers that they may be charged additional fees once they receive your package.

Insurance

You should always insure international shipments if your carrier does not provide automatic coverage. Check with your carrier for insurance regulations for each country—they may vary.

Using shipping tables to set your international shipping costs

When you ship internationally you can use shipping tables to set the amount you charge for shipping by both shipping method and destination. Find out more about using shipping rate tables.

Specifying where you'll ship

You can exclude certain regions or countries from the places you're willing to ship to.

Excluding shipping locations:
  1. Click My eBay at the top of most eBay pages. You may need to sign in.

  2. Click the Account tab.

  3. Click the Site Preferences link on the left side of the page.

  4. Click the Show link to see the Shipping Preferences section.

  5. Click the Edit link next to the Exclude shipping locations from your listings option.

  7. If you want to apply these exclusions to your current listings, select the Apply to all current live listings option.

  8. Once you're finished, click the Apply button.
