Selling using a fixed price

When you sell an item at a fixed price, your buyers have the convenience of buying the item immediately at a known price.

Choosing a fixed price format

Depending on whether you want to allow bidding on your item, you can either:

  • Create a fixed price listing, with no bidding allowed

  • Create an auction-style listing and add the Buy It Now option so that buyers can choose whether to bid on or buy your item right away.

With either option your listing will appear whenever buyers search or browse on eBay.

Summary Highlights

Fixed price

Buyers can purchase your item immediately at the price you set, but cannot bid on your item.

√ The Buy It Now price is always available.

√ Your item appears when buyers browse and search for items and when they narrow results to Buy It Now listings.

√ You can sell more than one item per listing.

√ You can create a single multi-quantity listing with variations.

√ You can let buyers suggest a price they are willing to pay for an item by selling with Best Offer.

Auction-style format with Buy It Now

Buyers can purchase your item immediately or place a bid.

Note: The Buy It Now price must be at least 30% higher than the starting price. For eBay Motors, this applies to Parts & Accessories, but not to vehicle listings.

√ The Buy It Now price is available until someone bids on the item or the reserve price is met. When the Buy It Now option disappears, the auction-style listing proceeds normally. In a few categories, the Buy It Now option may continue to be available after the first bid for a limited time.

√ Your listing appears when buyers browse and search for items and when they narrow results to Auction or Buy It Now.

√ You can sell only one item per listing.

√ You can add a Buy It Now price to 50 auction-style listings per month for free.

Requirements

To sell an item at a fixed price, you must have a Feedback score of at least 0 and list the item for at least $0.99.

Creating the listing

When you create the listing, in the Choose how you'd like to sell your item section of the Sell Your Item form, include a Buy It Now price.

  • To add the Buy It Now option to an auction-style listing, select the Auction tab and enter the Buy It Now price.

  • To sell at a fixed price only, select the Fixed price tab and enter the Buy It Now price.

Changing your listing format

You can't switch between a fixed price listing and an auction-style listing with Buy It Now. However, in some situations, you can add, edit, or remove your listing.

  • For auction-style listings: If more than 12 hours remain before the listing ends, you might be able to add, edit, or remove a Buy It Now price as long as the listing has not received any bids.

  • For fixed price listings: You can edit the listing's price.

Changing your fixed price listings to auction-style listings

You can convert your fixed price listings to auction-style listings using My eBay.

To change your fixed price listings to auction-style listings:
  1. Click My eBay at the top of most eBay pages. You may be asked to sign in.

  2. In the Sell section, click the Active link.

  3. Select the check box next to the listings you want to change to auction-style listings.

  4. Click the Send to Online Auction button.

  5. Edit the format for your listings by clicking the Edit button and choosing Format.

  6. On the Review & Submit page, verify your changes, and then click the Submit button.

If you choose to change a multi-quantity fixed price listing to an auction-style listing, we'll create a single item auction-style listing and remove 1 of your items from the multi-quantity fixed price listing. If you choose to change a single-quantity fixed price listing to an auction-style listing, we'll create a new single item auction-style listing and end the fixed price listing.

Note: Neither of these changes will happen until you click the Submit button.
