List your items in "best fit" categories
Review your listings to ensure that they are located in the "best fit" categories. If they're not in the "best fit" categories, use these eBay tools to revise your items:
Item condition for French language listings
Later this summer, sellers will need to begin including the item's condition when they list on the eBay.ca French language site.
When item condition is included with a listing, it helps improve the shopping experience for buyers in both French and English. Item condition is already required for listings created on eBay.ca and eBay.com.
Product identifiers launching on the eBay.ca French site
eBay uses an item’s brand, manufacturer part number (MPN), and global trade item numbers (GTINs)—such as Universal Product Codes (UPCs) and International Standard Book Numbers (ISBNs)—to help buyers quickly find the items they’re looking for.
Requirements for product identifiers began on the English eBay.ca site in 2015. Increasing the accuracy of listing information through product identifiers and item specifics is an important part of our ongoing work to improve the marketplace experience for all users. That’s why, starting in June 2017, new listings of branded items in new condition on cafr.eBay.ca will soon be required to include them.
Watch our Announcements Board for more details as they become available.
Category & Classification FAQs
Why is eBay making these changes?
Updates to categories and item specifics will create more intuitive buying, selling, and search experiences, and bring eBay into closer alignment with industry-standard classifications.
What if I don't use the new and recommended item specifics in my listings?
Excluding recommended item specifics will mean that your item won't surface to buyers when they use the navigation refinements.
When can I start listing in the new or revised categories and using the recommended item specifics?
The new and revised categories will be available June 13, 2017.
How can I find out which item specifics changes will impact my listings?
Check Selling Reminders on your My eBay > All Selling page, or the new Listing Improvement section of the Selling Manager summary page to identify listings that lack item specifics. You can easily edit those listings in bulk.
Will buyers be able to filter by custom item specifics I create?
Only eBay-recommended item specifics appear as a search filter for buyers. Your custom item specifics appear on the View Item page only.
How do I edit my listing when the item specifics in my category change?
To edit a single listing:
- Select the listing you want to revise in My eBay.
- Select Edit.
- From the Actions menu, select Edit Listings.
To edit multiple listings:
- Select the listings you want to revise.
- Select Edit.
- From the Edit drop-down menu at the top of the page, select Item Specific.
- From the drop-down menu at the top of the next screen, select Edit Listings in Bulk.
- Make the changes you want in the grid, then select Save and Close.
What can I do if my listing isn't moved to the most appropriate category?
Starting June 13, 2017, if your listing has not been automatically moved to the most appropriate category, you'll need to revise the listing and select a category that's better suited to your item.
How will category updates affect my fees?
When your items are moved to a new category with different final value fees, they take on the final value fees of that new category. Insertion fees and advanced listing upgrade fees will be based on the original category.
In cases where the original category has been merged with a category with different fees, you'll be charged the insertion fees and advanced listing upgrade fees for the original category until the listing ends. Final value fees for the new, merged category will apply. See fees for selling on eBay for details.
How do I provide feedback on the new category changes?
Please email us at email@example.com if you have questions about the changes, or wish to send us suggestions.
What are the best practices for listing new items?
Always use eBay-recommended item specifics such as material, brand name, manufacturer part number, or product code to optimize the visibility of your listings on eBay and search engines.
