2013 Spring Seller Update

Let your customers know.
As the number of buyers making purchases online continues to rise, so have their expectations for shipping, handling, and delivery time. To attract these buyers and stay competitive, many online merchants now offer same-day handling ("Orders received by 2:00 PM are shipped the same day!"). If you're able to offer same-business-day handling, let buyers know about your outstanding service by specifying same-day handling and your order cut-off time so they know when to expect their items.
Starting in late May, you'll be able to select same-day from the handling time options when you list. Plus, you can specify an exact order cut-off time for your items. Buyers can clearly see your order cut-off time, which will be used along with your handling time and shipping service information to provide more accurate—and competitive—delivery estimates.
What's changing in the handling time update?
Starting in late May, a same-business-day option will be added to the "Handling time" drop-down menu so you can let buyers know when you offer same-day shipping for faster delivery.
How do I specify same-day handling?
When you list a new item, relist, or revise a listing, just choose "Same business day" in the "Handling time" section of shipping details. You can also specify your order cut-off time in the shipping preferences in My eBay (My eBay > Account > Site Preferences > Shipping preferences). If you don't specify a cut-off time, the default cut-off time will be set to 2:00 PM Eastern Time for listings created eBay.ca.
Is there a way to update handling time on multiple listings at the same time?
Yes. When it becomes available to you, use the new business policies feature in My eBay to more efficiently specify or update your handling policy across multiple listings with just a few clicks. You can also specify or update handling time for multiple listings quickly and easily with these bulk editing tools.
Why is eBay making these changes to handling time?
Many sellers are already offering same-day handling but have not been able to clearly specify it to buyers in their listings. Starting in late May, you can choose the same-business-day option in the "Handling time" drop-down menu, to let buyers know about your same-day shipping service. Whenever you offer same-day handling, buyers will also see your specified order cut-off time.
What is the importance of specifying an accurate handling time?
Buyers often decide whether to buy an item based on how quickly they can get it. When you specify same-day handling and set an order cut-off time, buyers will see a fast, more accurate estimated delivery date and be able to buy with confidence (as long as the order is placed before the cut-off time).
To help set buyer expectations, specify your order cut-off time in the shipping preferences section of My eBay on eBay.ca. Remember, the order cut-off time you select applies to all of your listings on eBay.ca and will be reflected in the delivery estimates provided to buyers. If you also list on eBay.com or on eBay.ca’s French Sell Your Item form, set an order cut-off time in the My eBay shipping preferences section for those eBay sites as well. If you don't specify a cut-off time, the default cut-off time will be set to 2:00 PM Eastern Time for listings on eBay.ca and 2:00 PM Pacific Time for listings on eBay.com.
How much time do I have to upload tracking when I ship the same day?
Upload tracking by midnight on the same business day. For example, if you've specified an order cut-off time of 2:00 PM ET and your buyer places an order on Friday at 12:30 PM (before your cut-off time), that order should be shipped and the tracking information should also be uploaded by no later than 11:59 PM on Friday.
What if my item is available for local pickup? Do I still need to specify a handling time?
If your item is only available for local pickup, you don't need to specify a handling time. However, if your item is available for local pickup and is also shippable, you'll need to specify a handling time (e.g., same-day handling) for the other shipping method(s).
What if my item is available only for freight? Do I still need to specify a handling time?
If your item is available for freight only, handling time doesn't need to be specified.
How are delivery estimates calculated?
Estimated delivery times for listings with same-day handling are based on the specified handling time, order cut-off time, when the seller receives cleared payment, and the estimated delivery times provided by the shipping services.
How do you calculate delivery estimates for cross-border transactions?
For cross-border transactions, eBay displays your stated handling time, including same-day with cut-off time, for example: "Will usually ship within 1 business day of receiving cleared payment or will usually ship within same business day if the order is placed before 2 PM Eastern Time (excludes weekends and holidays)."
How can I change the order cut-off time for my orders?
You can update your order cut-off time in your shipping preferences on My eBay. Depending on the listing tool you use, a link to edit these same preferences may also be available as you list. Remember, the order cut-off time you select applies to all of your eBay listings and will be reflected in the delivery estimates provided to buyers.
Can I select different order cut-off times for different listings?
No. Order cut-off times cannot be set for individual items. When you set an order cut-off time in the shipping preferences section of My eBay, it will apply to all of your items listed on that eBay site, including active listings.
What is the default order cut-off time?
The default order cut-off time will be 2:00 PM Eastern Time for listings created on eBay.ca and 2:00 PM Pacific Time for listings on eBay.com.
How does the cut-off time appear when a buyer sees my listing?
When eBay can identify the buyer's location, buyers will see the item cut-off time in their local time. When the buyer's location can't be determined, the cut-off time will appear in Eastern Time on eBay.ca, and will be converted to Pacific Time on eBay.com. .
