What's not covered by the eBay Money Back Guarantee?
Real estate, items sold by Sotheby's, websites and businesses for sale, classified ads, and services are not covered by the eBay Money Back Guarantee. Vehicles are also not covered, but may be covered instead by Vehicle Purchase Protection.

Do I need a PayPal account to make an eBay Money Back Guarantee request?
No. The eBay Money Back Guarantee covers other electronic payment methods as well when used in the eBay checkout, including credit card and debit card.

If I paid for my purchase with PayPal, should I file a PayPal Purchase Protection request or an eBay Money Back Guarantee request?
You can use the eBay Money Back Guarantee for up to 30 days after you receive your item (or when you should have received it). If the 30 days have elapsed, you can file for PayPal Purchase Protection in your PayPal account. PayPal offers a 180-day window of coverage for items that aren't received or as described.

I received an item that doesn't match the listing description.
If you received an item that's incomplete, damaged, counterfeit, or otherwise not as described, request a return from My eBay. We'll track the resolution and help if you ask us to step in.

I haven't received my item.
Your item's arrival time depends on the shipping method you chose when you bought the item. To review the estimated delivery time, find the item in your purchase history in My eBay and select More Actions > View order details.

If the seller provided tracking information that shows the item was delivered, check the address you provided in your order details.

If you've double-checked your delivery details and the estimated delivery time has passed, get in touch with the seller by selecting Contact the Seller from the More Actions drop-down menu in your purchase history.

The seller didn't resolve my issue—how do I ask eBay to step in and help?
If you have a request that's been open for more than three business days, go to your open request in My eBay and select Ask us to step in and help.

The seller resolved my issue (or asked me to close my request). What should I do now?
If you're happy with the solution from your seller and don't need eBay to review your request, go to My eBay and close the request. Before you do so, make sure it's fully resolved—for example, that you've received any funds or items promised. Once a request is closed, it's not possible to open it again.

What does "Opening a request" mean?
If you're not able to resolve an issue with a purchase directly with your seller and you request that eBay step in and help, a "request" is opened in our Resolution Centre on your behalf. You can track the progress of your request, and will be notified of the resolution.

What timelines should I be aware of?

  1. Review the seller's return policy and return window before you make a purchse.
  2. Keep in mind that you have 30 days from the actual or latest estimated delivery date to open a request under the eBay Money Back Guarantee.

What should I do if I disagree with the decision that was made by eBay?
We review all the information we have about a case, and make a decision based on the policy we have in place. If you disagree with the decision, buyers and sellers both have the opporunity to appeal the decision within 30 days of eBay's decision being made. Learn more about this policy.
