Upgrading your PayPal account to a Premier or Business account

PayPal offers 3 kinds of accounts: Personal, Premier, and Business. If you want to use PayPal to accept payments from eBay buyers, you should upgrade your account to either a Premier or Business account. This will allow you to accept credit card payments.

Find out more about the differences between Personal, Premier, and Business accounts.

To upgrade your PayPal account:
  1. Go to PayPal.

  2. Click the Sign Up link at the top of the page.

  3. On the next page, click the Upgrade now link.

Important: If you offer PayPal as a payment option on eBay (either using logos or text in the item description) you must accept all forms of PayPal payment including payments from an existing PayPal account balance, bank account transfers, and credit card payments. You must have a Premier or Business PayPal account—or be willing to upgrade from a Personal PayPal account to a Premier or Business account—if you receive a credit card payment. Also, you can't tell eBay buyers that you will only accept specific forms of PayPal payment. See the PayPal payments policy for more information.
