Insertion fees

About insertion fees

  • An insertion fee is a fee for listing your item for sale.

  • This fee is charged to your seller account at the time of listing.

  • The insertion fee charged is based on the reserve price if a reserve price is set. If there's no reserve price, it's based on the starting price.

  • As with a newspaper ad, you need to pay this basic listing fee, even if your item doesn't sell. If the item sells, you'll also be charged a final value fee.

  • If your listed item doesn't sell or if your buyer doesn't pay, you may qualify for an insertion fee credit by relisting the item.

Insertion fees for different listings and categories

The insertion fee may vary, depending on the listing format and category. See the seller fees page for details.

Item categories
Insertion fees can vary by category. These fees are displayed when you list your item. eBay Motors, eBay Real Estate, and eBay Stores have different insertion fees.

Listings with variations
The insertion fee applies to each listing, regardless of the quantity of items in the listing.

Optional listing features
See the seller fees page for various optional listing fees including:

  • Reserve price auction-style listings

  • Auction-style listings with a Buy It Now option

  • Listing upgrades

Free insertion fees

Insertion fees are free for 50 auction-style listings per month.

If your listing is eligible for a $0.00 insertion fee, your insertion fee will appear as "Free" in the listing form. If you're relisting an item, the relist is eligible for $0.00 insertion fees under the same guidelines as a new listing (as long as it’s an auction-style listing in an eligible category, and falls within the limit of 50 listings in a calendar month). All listings (including relisted and cancelled listings) count toward the 50 listings limit.

If you list in 2 categories, you'll be charged the regular insertion fee for the second category. All other fees, including listing upgrade fees (such as Bold) and final value fees, still apply.

eBay Stores listings are not eligible for $0.00 insertion fees. Learn more about insertion fees for eBay Stores.

All categories are eligible for $0.00 insertion fees except:

  • Real Estate

  • The following Motors subcategories: Boats, Cars & Trucks, Motorcycles, Other Vehicles & Trailers, Powersports

  • The following Business & Industrial subcategories: Antique Tractors & Equipment > Tractors, Tractors & Farm Machinery, Heavy Equipment & Trailer, Imaging & Aesthetics Equipment, Forklifts & Other Lifts, Manufacturing Equipment, Metalworking Equipment, Commercial Printing Presses, Concession Trailers & Carts
