The ABCs of Customs
  |

Understand and follow Customs regulations to ensure a smooth and simple flow of your goods into international markets, speeding up Customs clearance and delivery, and ultimately improving your customer service.
Customs Documentation: As a Canadian shipping worldwide, your shipments are subject to inspection by Customs authorities in the destination country. For non-documents, you need to complete and submit a Customs declaration, with an accurate description of the contents, the country of origin and the value. The Customs declaration required depends on the international shipping service used and the content of the item.
Note: When you print an international shipping label with eBay's Online Shipping, your Customs form is included in the online process.
For documents (generally defined as a written, typed or printed communication of no commercial value), a Customs declaration is not required. A document is usually not assessed duty by Customs.
Duties and Taxes. Inform US and international bidders that they are responsible for paying applicable duties and/or taxes (separate from the item’s cost) upon receipt of shipment.
Customs Forms Tips
 |

Take Advantage of NAFTA Duty-Free Status: Include a NAFTA Certificate of Origin if (1) you are shipping to the US, (2) your items is valued under US$2,500, and (3) your item was manufactured in the US, Canada or Mexico. If your item meets the above criteria, it may qualify for duty-free status under NAFTA.
Ensure Value Declaration: The value you declare for your item on your Customs form should be the same as the final selling price of the item (excluding shipping costs). Also, this value should be the same as the Total Insurance Coverage Value you enter in the label printing process. Include a copy of the invoice inside your package so Customs can easily see the value and item description if they open the package.
Ensure Accuracy: Undervaluing an item or providing an inaccurate “Description of Goods” can result in seizure, delivery delays or refusal of item entry by the destination country.
Ensure Completion: Completely fill out the Customs form, making it easier to be cleared by Customs.
Ensure Correct Addresses: Provide complete sender and buyer address information for US and international destinations.
Working with a Customs Broker. Consulting with a professional US Customs broker, like A & A Contract Customs Brokers, ensures that you are compliant with Customs regulations and accurately determines if your product qualifies under NAFTA. A & A partners with you to act on your behalf, carrying out customs-related responsibilities. This ensures the compliance and quick release of your product through US Customs.
